An amazing espresso coffee bar showcasing brews from top Australian roasters and encouraging customers to try new beans. This hole-in-the wall joint offers very little seating to lounge about. But the decor is lovely, and really, it’s all about the coffee.

Gumption by Coffee Alchemy
Serving coffee and coffee only, no brownies, no banana bread, no toast and nary a canelé in sight, Coffee Alchemy’s ‘Gumption’ is giving many coffee shops in and around the CBD a good run for their money.

Green Heart Espresso
As you’d guess from the name, it’s more of a cafe than a La Locanda-style neighbourhood restaurant. The cafe has some nice accoutrements, from Little Marionette coffee to a clever room by Matt Woods, the designer with Bloodwood in his portfolio.

The Purple Moose
The guys at The Purple Moose have developed a cult following through their creativity, fun-loving style and passion for some of Sydney’s best coffee. This is a lovely little cafe. Great coffee by Alchemy, lots of style, friendly bunch of guys behind the counter. Nice little selection of sweet and savoury treats, as well as a pick and mix style mezza offering.

Sonoma has to be up there among Sydney’s top artisan bread makers. A number of restaurants – including world famous ones Tetsuyas and Quay, and independent supermarkets as well as cafes use Sonoma bread; but the Sonoma Bakery in Alexandria is well worth a visit.
