Talk to Sales

Kounta joins the Lightspeed family

I am excited to announce that Kounta has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Lightspeed, a world-leading POS and e-commerce company based out of Canada.

By Nick Cloete

This is an incredible milestone for our business. To have an amazing company like Lightspeed recognise Kounta’s leadership in our industry is a testament to the exceptional team we have assembled, the quality of the product we have built, and the reputation for service excellence we have earned. I am immensely proud of and grateful to all the people who helped us get here.

I’m proud of our team and our partners who have stuck with us through a bunch of natural ups and downs in a high growth business, who have supported me and our leaders, and most importantly our customers. You have lived and breathed the Kounta brand, purpose and story.

I’m proud of our leaders who have led us through an incredible growth period, and who have grown themselves.

I’m proud of our customers, especially our early stage customers, who took a leap of faith with us, who were trailblazers, and who have stuck with us while we grew the Kounta platform. In the world’s toughest industry, they come to work 24/7 to live out their dreams, always striving for an amazing customer experience and always looking to grow. They are the heroes.

And lastly, I’m proud that an Australian company is being recognised on the world stage as one of the best in this market. Not every company achieves this.

This means even better things for the future of Kounta

We’re moving into a new world of openness and connection, of collaboration with other really amazing people to create a better future for all. I founded Kounta with this in mind and to help solve all the unnecessary inefficiencies that exist in our space. Globally there are other like-minded people doing the same thing, Lightspeed is one of them.

We connected with Lightspeed years ago and have stayed in touch, and over the past few months we have collaborated on how we can join forces to create something amazing together. As you’ll find out, the two organisations and the people are so well aligned on purpose, culture, technology and goals.

There is an important difference however – Lightspeed is a $3 billion market cap company. Having them in our corner brings a whole new dimension of capital and resources into play.

We’ve got some serious power behind us now

Through the strength and resources we gain by teaming up with Lightspeed, we are well positioned to:

  1. Keep growing in Australia and New Zealand;
  2. Continue investing deeply in product development and innovation;
  3. Expand into the Asia Pacific region;
  4. Bring new products to market, like Lighstpeed’s best-in-world retail product; and
  5. Keep learning and growing.

We are about to enter a very exciting time for Kounta, and I couldn’t think of a better bunch of people to be doing it with.

So what happens next?

We have joined the Lightspeed family, but Kounta will continue to operate as is. It’s business as usual, and our top priorities will always be serving our customers, adding genuine value to the industry, and continuing to grow. As for me, I’m not going anywhere. I can’t think of anywhere I’d rather be than leading our company into this new chapter.

And so we move forward, full of thanks and admiration for the people who have helped us get to here, and for the people who are going to help us get to the next level. I can truly say that the Lightspeed team are good people. They get it, and they get us.

Onward and upward.

Instagram post 17857601899559130 So, you’ve decided to open, or already have a restaurant - Go you! As the options for diners continue to increase and the bar is set higher and higher, it’s the little details that set businesses apart. A thoughtful, beautifully designed menu is integral to today’s dining experience and something customers absolutely expect from a modern venue. Your menu is a chance to show your customers who you are – your ethos as a brand, your taste and your flair, without saying a word. It’s one of the first impressions people will have of your venue, so it’s important that you really nail it and make it part of your brand story. Head to the link in our bio for our 5 menu design tips to suit your style, and our simple PDF template you can help yourself to if you like.

Instagram post 18057600388170474 The Awards season in hospitality often sparks a sense of inspiration for many. For some it might inspire them to work more closely with local farmers and producers, others might be left rethinking their brand, and for many, it might fuel a desire to open a restaurant of their own. But desire and inspiration alone won’t create reality. Restaurants are a dynamic and broad collective of businesses; from Quick-Service style to Fine Dining, encompassing ethnic foods like Indian, Thai or Mexican, featuring Burger Joints and Vegan businesses, they are the ultimate vehicle to express your Food and Beverage concept and can offer a very good return on invested capital. So why wouldn’t you? Well, whilst opening a Restaurant is an incredibly exciting adventure, it’s also deeply complex in equal parts. With an imposing financial investment and the high risk of hospitality’s most competitive segment, opening a restaurant deserves careful consideration and deliberate, thorough planning to ensure success. We’ve broken down the three key areas to focus on, and rounded up the best resources to help create your next reality. Link in Bio.
Instagram post 17851472047277139 I am so incredibly proud to be working for a company who genuinely cares about our future, and wants to be a driving force in creating a more sustainable world for all. Working closely with OzHarvest wasn't something I knew I would be doing when I took this role, but I am so thrilled to be, I look forward to seeing the impact that our collaboration is having when I wake up every day. If you're in Sydney get to the cafe and eat, it's genuinely amazing. If you can't make it to the cafe, get on to the website and find your place in the fight against food waste! #poweredbykounta
